What is fail-safe and fail secure?
Hi maybe you can help me. I am an architect in NYC and am working on a renovation to a community residence facility. It is a 1 family house and they would like to do the following:
chain link gate - 3' wide by 6' high, that has an electronic release - from inside the yard it would be a keypad and from outside the yard (to get in) it would be a push button that deactivates the electronic latch. They also asked that it be interconnected to their fire alarm system.
Do you have such a product? Or something very similar that does the same thing?
Also- what is the difference between fail safe and fail secure?

The lock I would choose or your application would be the Bulldog Electric gate lock as found here:

This lock comes equipped with a pushbutton and a keypad can be purchased separately from the same link. As for wiring this into your security system, this lock has a simply relay on it where most simple contacts can activate it. In the security industry, fail safe means the gate will "fail" or quit in the open or unlocked position. An example of when a gate would fail is a power outage. If a gate fails secure, that means it would fail in the locked or closed position.
